Abstract
Objectives : This study was designed to evaluate the change of parental images of inpatients through Giessen-Test and the correlation between GT scale and GBB(Giessener Beschwerdebogen) total scores during hospitalization in department of psychosomatics £¦ psychotherapy in Rudolf-Virchow University Hospital in Berlin, Germany.

Methods : 57 inpatients experiencing psychosomatics and psychotherapy ward(female : 38(66.7%), male 19(33.3%)) completed this study. Giessen-Test for the real- & ideal-image of self & parent and GBB(Giessener Beschwerdebogen)-Test for the rating of symptoms were applied to patients twice before & after treatment to evaluate the interval changes.

Results : The decrease of mean differences of GT real- & ideal image of self were statistically significant in GT scale 1(social resonance), scale 2(dominance), scale 3(control), scale 4(mood) and scale 5(retention). By GT father & mother were the decrease of mean differences of real- & ideal-image statistically significant in scale 2(dominance). GBB total scores of patients decreased significantly after treatment. The correlation between GBB total score and GT scale 4(mood) of father real-image was statistically significant. The correlation between GBB and GT mean difference of real-£¦ ideal-image was statistically significant only in GT scale 1 (social resonance) of self image.

Conclusion : There were statistically significant decrease of mean differences between GT scores of real- & ideal-image in self, partially in father & mother. There was also statistically significant reduction of symptoms in GBB total scores after treatment. It could be assumed through the results of this study that patients of this case group became more positive and more realistic in evaluation of self & parents after therapeutic intervention than before treatment. Further study is needed to evaluate specific correlation between diagnostically meaningful psychiatric or psychosomatic disorder and GT self- £¦ parental image of patients.
